Will you be a Hero?

For the past two years we have conducted a Heroes Campaign to raise funds for local Red Cross programs. This is our largest annual campaign and this year we have set a goal of $30,000 for the two counties jointly. With the slumping economy we know this is a high goal but we also know it is critical for us to raise these funds to continue local programs.

What we need are Heroes. Will you be a Hero? It is simplier than you might think. To be a Hero you commit to raising $1,000 for the local American Red Cross during the month of March. The idea is not for you to give the entire $1,000 but to involve a group, business or your friends to do this. We have had many successful events in the past such as bake sales, business events (such as blue jean Fridays), Red Cross squares and more. Another simple way is to find 10 friends who will each give $100.

All the funds from this campaign support local programs. Will you be a Hero for the American Red Cross? If you are interested in being a Hero please contact Mitch at the Wabash Office... 260.563.2658.

Thanks!

Icy Weekend

Following the recent ice storm we stayed very busy assisting those in need after losing power to their homes. We opened two seperate shelters during the span of Friday to Monday serving 6 people with a warm place to sleep and to enjoy meals and snacks. We also responded to 6 seperate local disasters, primarily residential fires. Through these incidents we provided 18 local residents with their immediate needs including food, clothing and shelter totaling over $2,600 combined.

I thank everyone who assisted in this endeavor. It was very taxing on our local resources but thanks to the support we received we were able to successfully meet all needs.

As we continue to move through the winter season we encourage everyone to practice fire safety in their home. Also take a moment to check your smoke detectors and practice a family disaster plan.

Duke's Health Care Foundation Grants

We received some great news in Miami County that we have received two grants to support programs in 2009. These two grants totaling nearly $12,000 combined will support local Health and Safety programs and also the Miami County transportation program. Thank you to the Duke's Health Care Foundation for their continued support of Red Cross programs!
